Andersen’s commitment to sustainability extends throughout our company and into our production practices, including the wood we use to make our products. In 1999, Andersen established a wood procurement policy that states a preference for wood certified to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. Andersen is one of the only window and door manufacturers to have a wood procurement policy.
FSC is a coalition of loggers, foresters, environmentalists and sociologists who are committed to the practice of well-managed forestry. The organization has established the world’s strongest certification system to date for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes that span economic, social and environmental concerns. Companies like Andersen can be FSC certified to manufacture products using wood certified to FSC standards. Andersen has held FSC Chain of Custody certification since 2008.
In addition, Andersen holds Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (COC) certification (SCS-COC-001337) from Scientific Certification Systems. By obtaining this COC certification, Andersen is able to manufacture and deliver FSC wood-based products that help achieve LEED materials and resource credits, or in other green building programs where applicable.
The FSC Chain of Custody certification is awarded to companies that meet FSC standards for traceability in their wood supply chain. Before a product may carry an FSC label, all stages of the production, distribution, and sale of the product must be independently evaluated and the wood must be tracked from the certified forest to the finished product. The certification was awarded by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), the leader in third-party, independent environmental and sustainability certification.
Andersen is proud to manufacture products using wood from responsible sources. Over 70 percent of the wood sourced by Andersen comes from certified forests.
